Jerusalem is now a modern thriving city and capital of the State of Israel, although most foreign embassies are located in Tel Aviv. The area with more than 5000 years of history it has seen the rules of the kings of Israel, the Romans, Arabs and Ottomans and it has been under a British mandate. Today the City represents the division between Israelis and Palestinians over the land that goes from the Jordan river to the Mediterranean sea, in which the City is divided in the west for Israel and the East for the Palestinians. The Modern city is host for the Israeli parliament (Knesset), the Israel museum, Yad Vashem museum reminding of the Nazi holocaust, and Mt Erzel. Its mandatory for all buildings to use the same stone, that is named after the city. The Old city of Jerusalem is a piece of history itself and it was
declared a World Heritage site. It has four quarters, the Armenian,
Jewish, Muslim and the Christian, and between the walls it once
stood the first and second Jewish temples, Christ was condemned to
the cross, the crusaders invaded, and the Romans siege it with
fierce determination that ended with the destruction of the city and
temple as narrated by Flavio Josefo. Leaving behind the blood that
had been wasted in this mountains its a highly recommended place to
visit, it has an energy hard to explain and it will assure the
visitor a trip to the past, with significant places as the
birthplace of virgin Mary, the tomb of King David, the mark of the
white horse in which the prophet Muhammad ascended to the skies. |
