What to Do

What do you like to do can be the first question determining your trip to Italy, her some of the places I visited:

Rome: well, coliseum and the Vatican city are really a must see. Rome is really a museum in itself so walking around its not a bad idea and most sights are actually just there, streets are beautiful and Romans are quite friendly if you ask for directions
Also to see in Rome: Fontana di trevi, Pantheon, Piazza Spagna, Pallantine Hills, Boca di la Verita.
Although pasta is world wide known from Italy it might surprise you the stile and flavors of real Italian food. Pizza has the same issue specially in Naples, home of the pizza.

Venice: Canals, canals and more canals. The main plaza of course.

Firenze: The David statue is a must don't miss it.

Pisa: The tower and that's it, usually a daytrip would do.

Naples: Pompeii is your main destination near there, the city is quite big and populated. visit my Pompeii page

Bari: i been there for the ferry to Greece and regretted not to have time to stay more. its a gorgeous place.

  Travel Tips

Lots of people in waiting to get into the vatican city? if traveling alone what you can do is just walk up to the front and enter. Many of the people who visit come in large groups and they would not even realize you are coming in, also you can say your group just came in and you where in the toitel. You will save 3 or 4 hours of standing in the street.
Im sure you already read this but by careful in all areas around tourist places, the bus number 64, and all subway stops even in the Holy Vatican city pickpockets are always operating. Violent crime is almost non existent but pickpocket, specially children, abound.

  What to Buy

A not so typical Italian souvenir can be dried noodles and a can of salsa, also there are in the streets people selling the busts of great Roman Emperors, that's a great office present.
