  Travel Tips

Peru is a poor country, hence if you are planning to save some bucks travelling be prepared for bad buses and long trips. I would not recommend taking minibuses or other local transportation as the money difference is not so much and you will have to stop in every little town.

Petty theft is a problem in Cuzco and Lima, with so many tourist there are many many scams and sadly the street kids are the ones stealing from customers sitting in bars and restaurants in the street. Keep good eye to your belongings.

  What to Buy

Alpaca, Llama and Vicuna wool clothing are a great present to get back home, you can get hats, sweaters, scarf's, ponchos, shawls... many things for the winter.
Its recommendable that you get one as well for you since the altitude makes very cold nights, in Bolivia and Peru.

Food

Peruvian food is, by large, one of the most rich in all south America with huge varieties of foods depending on the region. Potato based dishes in the mountains, seafood in the Capital and stews in the south are just one example.
Mi favorite Peruvian dishes include:
Papa a la Huancaina: boiled potatoes with a sauce based on cheese and egg yolk
Aji de Gallina
Ceviche (see recipe below)
Lomo Saltado (see recipe below)
Adobo: Spicy stew made from chicken broth and peppers
Anticuchos de corazon
Chicharron de pollo: fried chicken
Picante de Mariscos: spicy soup
Jalea de Mariscos
Aguadito

Recipes:
Ceviche Recipe: Ceviche is marinated fish.

Get any white fish you like, free of bones, fat parts and skin. Cut the fish in little dices of about 2cm each side. On the other hand prepare a mix in the mixer with lemon juice, garlic, parsley and the parts of the fish that left and blend.

With that mix marinate the raw fish for about 10 minutes and serve. Usually served with sweet potatoes, corn and red onions chopped on the top.

Lomo Saltado:
To make lomo saltado is actually easier than what it looks. You will need
Meat: cutted is stripes
Peppers and Onions: cutted in long pieces
Potatoes (already fried)
White rice (already cooked)

First cook the peppers and the onion with some garlic, and salt and wait until the onions are brown, after that add the meat and while its cooking (it will take a few minutes only) add soy sauce and chicken broth. wait until the sauce is almost gone and serve with rice.
